Ramgoolam Expected To Share Election Plans With Nation This Evening

During a joint press conference at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in Port-Louis which starts at 20h. The PM will be accompanied by the Leader of the MSM, Pravind Jugnauth, as well as the Leader of the PMSD, Xavier-Luc Duval. Ramgoolam is expected to announce the dissolution of parliament and the date of the general elections.

People close to the negotiations say that an agreement has been reached to split the 60 tickets as follows: Ptr: 40; MSM:12 and PMSD:8. There are persistent rumours that we'll go to vote on Sunday May 8th.

Better deal than expected for the MSM: 18 tickets! A dream come true for a party with ever waning support.

You missed it narrowly: D day is May 5

Yep, surprised they got 18. Think Navin chose May 5 because they want to finish with a bang on the Saturday May 1st rally. Sunday is going to be quiet and then restrictions with respect to the sale of alcohol kick in.

Restrictions on sale of alcoholic drinks always apply during a campaign irrespective of whether election day is during the week or weekend. The choice of this particular date is perhaps more out of gratitude to Xavier( who has been a loyal partner of Navin since 1999 )for having accepted 7 tickets instead of 8. His personal suggestion to fix it on May 5 commemorating the death anniversary of SGD has in this regard been entertained by Navin.
