Somalian Pirates To Be Tried in Mauritius

PM said on TV that we have to show that we've reached a certain level so we should be able to handle this. What do you think about "Mauritius punching above her weight"?

Management Contract of La Sentinelle Suspended

That's coming after the owners of Radio One replaced Jean-Claude de L'estrac with Farook Hossen as Chairman. The island's largest press group will challenge this decision. A new general manager has already been nominated.

Have you noticed any difference in the way R1 processes information since these changes have taken place?

Liverpool Ends 6-Year Trophy Drought

By winning the 2012 Carling Cup on a 3-2 penalty shootout against Cardiff City. Hopefully this will motivate them to finish in the top four league spots.

MK Posts Rs800 Million Loss for 9 Months

And it's blaming higher fuel costs for the shortfall. I guess everything else is perfect at our national airline.

Sarkozy Joins Presidential Race

That was yesterday. He has 64 days to convince French voters to give him another mandate. That's 30 days more than the campaign of our last general election. His main rivals wasted little time to react.

Chuttoo Organising Debate On Political Financing

Because big political donations are driving policies that benefit a minority in our country. He's got a valid point. Why would you give millions to politicians? Because of the blue eyes they don't have or to get something from them later?

Naturally, with the flat tax I am guessing political financing reached a significantly higher level in 2010. Add to this the proposed double candidacies and you will understand what some want to do with our democracy.

Debate is on February 23rd and you're invited.

Whitney Houston Found Dead in Hotel Room

The Pop Queen reportedly lost her magical voice due to substance abuse. She was also in an abusive relationship with Bobby Brown whom she divorced a few years ago. Listen to Lionel Ritchie's interesting take on what Whitney has gone through. R.I.P. Diva.

CWA Applies Harsher Cuts, After Downpour

Plus you will be fined if you are caught washing your car. You may not even collect 200 and go to jail directly for up to two years as per section 49a of the CWA act. Ain't that so funny after all the rain we've received the past few days? With some regions being practically flooded?

CWA will carry on with the patchwork: Midlands dam will now be connected to Mare-aux-Vacoas. That's after linking Mare Longue to the island's largest reservoir. So, the minister's prayers haven't worked. Neither has the recent water hike. They also seem to be telling us that there is water in the Midlands area. How come then Phase 2 of the reservoir there did not get done? Is it the same reason why policemen have only one used shirt to wear?

This critical problem is here to stay until those responsible of the dossier quit sitting on their hands. Or are fired and fined.

How Do The Dying Feel

I wish I could live one more week. They remember good times. They miss their friends. They don't have time for bitterness. That's what one of my friends told me a decade ago about his experience with humans in the absolute last few days of their life.

Now a nurse has collected top regrets of patients with 12 weeks on the clock into a book. These include wishes of having lived a life true to oneself and been happier. Steve was right: death is very likely the single best innovation of life.

75% of Poll Don't Want Their Ministers Unelected

As recommended by the Carcassonne report. I guess they don't agree with double candidacies too because that's another way we could get unelected ministers. Right?

UoM Students Unconvinced By Sithanen Electoral Proposal

With one student getting an ovation after rightly concluding that his reform proposal doesn't solve anything. Others have concluded that his explanation was opaque. I guess a bit like his stimulus package and economic policies.

I hope he was brave enough to explain the main purpose of his proposal: reduce the democratic space. Something which would have helped some of Karl's children see clearer.

Former RBS Boss Stripped of Knighthood

He received for services to banking because he helped throw the UK into the biggest recession in six decades. Here's the chain of events: bank makes poor decisions; bank fails; helps create financial recession which causes major recession. You can start by reading the executive summary of the FSA report.

It should help you figure out that there must be an optimal size for the banking sector. More on this later.

Should Zakir Naik Be Allowed into Our Country?

Khalil Elahee thinks the State should fully justify why Mr. Naik shouldn't be allowed into Mauritius for a conference. I don't think so. When it comes to certain national security issues the State doesn't need to explain itself at length.

 What do you think?

Collen Saying Berenger Scared of Meeah

Which would explain why the leader maximo does not want the BLS to be abolished. That was yesterday on Radio+ where she was discussing the Sithanen report with Raouf Bundhun. Interesting points made by the well-read Lindsey Collen who always comes prepared.

But she seems to have overlooked the dangerous recommendations contained in that report such as the very anti-democratic provision of double candidacies. Ashok Subron of Rezistans & Alternativ too appears to have missed the elephant three feet away in a corridor with a handful of rice.
