Teleplus Gets Two-And-Half Times More YouTube Views Than L'Express

After adjusting for how long they've been around. Teleplus has clocked 18.3m views on its YouTube channel since June 3 of last year which is a bit more than one third what L'Express received. Of course L'Express has been there more than seven times longer. So about 40,700 views are registered on Teleplus on a daily basis compared to 15,700 for L'Express. TOP TV gets 13,400 daily views – unlike Teleplus and L'Express it doesn't have any newspapers or magazines – while ION News grabs 9,400 views every day. Radio One too has a channel and it gets 3,300 views each day. Surprisingly one pretty good media platform doesn't have its channel yet.

It would be interesting to adjust these numbers for the types of videos hosted. Like what is the split between thrash/quality reporting. Who should do that? MRC, UoM or ICTA?

Mauritian FB Pages With The Most Likes

I googled but didn't find any lists. But it's not difficult to get a rough idea:

So the PMSD and Party Malin have more likes than the Labour Party. I guess these two parties will win by a landslide in the next general elections. MK looks like it will be the first company to hit a million likes. When you deal with more than 1 million passengers every year surely it's no big surprise that you are right on the top here. But likes don't necessarily mean a lot as people like pages for all kinds of reasons. And page administrators don't all do as good a job.

BOI To Promote Occupational Permits Overseas

Because it wants to increase the number of people holding them by 500-700 to 5,000 according to Le Mauricien. If that's true then dumbness has become a national disease. Because we have a serious problem of unemployment in this country -- probably close to 12% -- and many thousands of young graduates are not able to find jobs let alone meaningful ones. Let us not even talk about the likelihood they'll be able to buy a decent house with all the real-estate speculation that has been going on for 7-8 years now. And frankly I don't think that's the way you solve one of the worst cases of brain-drain in the world.

The BOI should definitely get serious about the types of investments and people that are allowed to come in our country. Young graduates should be allowed the maximum of opportunities to get smart.

Ramgoolam Implying He is A Weak PM

See, he said in an interview to Le Mauricien that he was against Infinity BPO receiving any stimulus money. The snag is that this company has been getting government help on more occasions than one. That too after it was granted stimulus paisa. So here is a PM not getting his way, repeatedly.

He went on to add in another interview to The Mauritius Times that he told Stiglitz he had always been against trickle-down economics. Hmm. How strong a PM then would have allowed such a vicious version of these toxic policies to be implemented between 2005 and 2010? Especially when we know that they amount to a brutal betrayal of Labour Party's DNA.

And he plans of reintroducing the death penalty. That's not going to happen either. Unless he wants to end his third term prematurely.

Gilbert Ahnee Quits

This has been one of the top stories unfolding over the last few hours. He will apparently be taking on a new job in January. Probably some of the most interesting pieces he has written as editor-in-chief were penned in the last few months when he finally started to doubt the toxic economic policies of Rama Sithanen.

We are also grateful to him for his good taste in allowing the readers of his quality paper as he liked to describe Le Mauricien to enjoy quite a few of our pieces in the Forum section.
