Why Ramgoolam is Dumping Sithanen

Because it's a very logical thing to do. The guy is the most incompetent Finance Minister our country has known. He has delivered the worst economic growth in decades and tons of robust poverty, flattened our tax structure to create inequality by the truckload while unemployment has stayed in double-digits despite Mauritius receiving some Rs40 billion of FDI.

Worse, he has created serious structural problems for our economy by gifting billions to a dead industry. And we shouldn't forget the controversial stimulus package as well as the mega-skeletons.

And should we start talking about what has been going on at the Bank of Mauritius or the string of totally irresponsible statements he has uttered over the last five years?

Where Ramgoolam has failed is that he allowed the bean-counter to mess up Mauritius for so many years.

Upton Sinclair sums it up brilliantly "It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his job depends on not understanding it."

As we are learning in the US - the hard way albeit, there are severe consequences when we bale out the fat cats. Love the Sinclair quote.

Obama is trying to make the US more equitable with his health reform and curbing excesses. Here Sithanen has been doing the exact opposite.

Quite surprised to see a neo-conservative given so much space in the newspaper that Kher Jagatsingh and Ramlallah founded in order to fight against regressive minds.

What's next? The life work of NMU????

Mons.

Baljinder Sharma had this to say on Sithanen's sidelining. He ended his article this way:

"Rama Sithanen once deserted his party on the eve of an election"

PAF!

Donc...

- in August 2010 (merci Anonymous of August 21, 2010 1:56 PM):

- "I think the Finance Minister (...) will undo all the good that his predecessor has done in restoring the integrity of public finances with an incoherent, inchoate but over ambitious, detailed, misdirected ERCP programme that will end up wasting resources on the wrong things while eschewing doing the right things"

- "My immediate concern is that the repainting of the Mauritian political landscape required ditching a proven, competent, and successful Finance Minister – the best that Africa and the Indian Ocean had. He was the architect behind Mauritius’ economic turnaround and recovery in 2005; with a little help from his friends backstage. Rama Sithanen’s removal for reasons of political expediency at a difficult juncture seems inexplicable in rational terms. Is the Labour leadership becoming intolerant of any Cabinet member whose performance shines too bright for comfort, relative to his peers? If so that will be damaging for Mauritius as time unfolds."

- in July 2011:

- "Mauritius removed from this government – for the most absurd reasons -- the only Finance Minister who actually had regional and global credibility and a proven track record."

- "There is a great deal of work that needs to be done on repairing and reinvigorating public finances and putting them in the kind of shape where Mauritius can begin to run budget surpluses instead of deficits and can reduce rather than keep increasing its public debt."

Li comprend ki bann GLD pa méritt l'attention démesuré ki zott gagné, ki la-terr fauder ferr lott zaferr ki kann ek ki bizin augmentt compétitivité, amélior infrastructur mais pou li sé zis public finances ki contt, zis privatisation britt-britt ek 'cut down to size welfare state' kom panacée.
Mé bizarrman, pa enn mo lorr flat-tax: kott kass-la pou sorti lerla?
