Union: Control Price of Basic Foodstuffs

Like milk, cheese, cooking oil and sugar. So asked, Jane Ragoo, spokesperson of CTSP in order to shield the poor from the recent cascade of price hikes. She also asked for an additional compensation and the setting up of a stabilizing fund.

What do you think about these suggestions?

Bad news... We're now so dependent on low-cost chinese produce that when China sneezes, the world gets sick...

I've read that whenever price controls are put in place, there is no incentive to sellers to propose the thing on their shelves - example: STC-subsidised oil in the no-so-distant past. May we know more about how that proposed "stabilisation fund" is to work in practice?
And what about minimum wages for specific trades - I wonder how people are 'made' to accept Rs1,200 per month for a full-time job in some places?

More bad news...

In the meantime, it seems that our politicians still have trouble defining priorities, triplicating price-watching departments, hastily enforcing a botched policy. And our trade-unionists are trying to stoke the fire of street-parades: will they succeed in waking up the dodo?
