Why Mauritius Is Not Ready To Go Easy On Pot

Because we've been regressing so much over the past decade or so. Which means that we have a lot of basic problems to solve before we even start thinking about what to do with marijuana. For example take the dark smoke that comes out of way too many buses. Inhaling that stuff will eventually make you stupid. Combine this with rote learning and nine amputations a week. And road fatalities that should reach a 50-year high this year and up about 25% to 30% from 2017. Should we talk about the horrendous inequality brought about by the flat tax and financed partly with the beautiful idea of three casinos per town and village?

Just imagine what would happen if stupid drivers were now stoned. Glory to thee...

May I be allowed to hint to these French villagers who are suing their State for negligence to prevent long-term losses of life, enabling class action lawsuits in Dodoland would have deepened our young democracy by giving back power to people to use the judiciary to force the legislators to take their responsibility. But who are the politicians who have the guts to be really accountable in Dodoland?

Nope - Mauritius is certainly not ready at all. Not even for the elimination of BLS nor the introduction of PR. It seems our current politicians are sometimes getting glimpses of reality and occasionally say things that they internally hope that will adhere with the masses. Like legalising weed, eliminating BLS, or like Paul have recently 'dékouverr lamérik lor map' with money politics, and even Navin being obfuscated by MSM's abuse of MBC...

Class action is a must. As is the possibility for voters to eliminate a controversial law as available in Switzerland.

Thank God Mauritius is against PR. We certainly don't want to turn our democracy into a plutocracy.

Friends, class action is a must. So are so many other boosters. But I am afraid we have a big impediment in the form of credible people implementing (right policies) and enforcing (fair/updated laws). Thought we were already drifting towards absolute plutocracy. Sure a sordid PR would only act as a dope. When compounded Bullshit (BS) and Intellectual Yet Idiot (IYI) turn into lethal TINA!

We're drifting for sure but our FPTP system still allows to dump a few plutocrats every 4-5 years. Recall elections would provide us with the option of removing them from parliament within a few months anytime during a mandate.

Dump them and they come around through the backdoor. People simply have no valid alternative for government. For a starter we should at least send a few Collens and Minerves in Parliament as dissenting voices.

They do. They're getting a lot less shy voting for smaller parties.
