Download Citizen Concerns For Free And Understand Plenty Fast

Citizen concerns is the English version of Preokipasion Sitwayin, a book which I published last June and made available for free to drastically improve the level of debate in Mauritius. The best version is for the iPhone and other Apple devices but there's also a pdf version for all other phones and computers.

Enjoy the read and let us know how you found it.

Four Great Books To Download On Your Apple Device

Although I wrote Investment Analytics for pros sitting for the three CFA exams or enrolled in a Finance MBA I have noticed, over the past 26 years, that undergrads and ACCA students also purchased it. One of the youngest readers must have been that girl who had just completed her HSC. The digital version which was rolled out in October 2023 raises the learning experience to a whole new level.

Quantitative Methods Lifesaver, published in July 2024, will make you breeze through the QM part of the CFA Level 1 exam. The guts of this book are from the print copy of the Level 1 Lifesaver I developed over 12 years reducing it from 458 pages to 110. QMLS will be particularly useful in this era of big data and AI.

WTVFi2024 is a guide to help analyse electoral manifestos and policies in any country. It contains an insane amount of interesting information on Mauritian politics, the state of her economy, frameworks to picture governance in a whole new light and forecasts till 2029. The diaspora will love it. It was published in October 2024.

Finally FTF is a book that offers a governance-based improvement to the great electoral system we have in Mauritius. It's the product of looking at electoral systems for over twenty years and writing over 100 articles on the topic. FTF came out in December 2025.

Book Which Improves An Amazing Electoral System Published

The FPTP version that we use in Mauritius since 1967 has served us extremely well but during the past quarter of a century politicians have been trying to replace it with a mixed system which would be a complete disaster. The principal purpose of this book is to help prevent this calamity by critically looking at all the main electoral proposals since 2002.

It also provides more than a dozen vital criteria to evaluate any electoral system or proposition and will therefore put the debate on electoral reform on a firm footing. The book which can be pre-ordered right away refines an interesting solution, backed by a thorough analysis of electoral data, we presented in 2014. Happy reading!

The Sharpest Report on Mauritius in A Long Time

The Mauritian economy contracted by 15% in 2020 and the virus giving COVID-19 has been mutating. This calls for a solid policy response. To do that you need to get your facts right. My August 2020 analyst report on the 2020/21 Budget does precisely this by providing crucial insights based on independent research and analysis. If you liked Kozelidir you will love it. Here’s a brochure of the 28-page report.

Getting a Handle On Electoral Reform Has Never Been Easier

Understanding the issues of electoral reform is very important because it sets the rules of the political game. But just like with anything else there is a minimum investment of energy and time required to figure them out. That can be more difficult than it should have been when you have a biased media putting intellectually dishonest politicians with a giant skills-mismatch like Sithanen on a pedestal. It doesn't help either that the Labour Party is currently in the darkest phase of its history.

So the above table will be quite handy to bring a maximum of voters up to speed with the three principal options. Both the Sithanen (RS/NR/PB) and the Pravind Jugnauth proposals would have increased the number of additional MPs we had over the last eleven general elections by over one hundred – the actual numbers would be between 124 and 168. They would also have made government formation a lot more difficult and led to unstable governments and to more governments with much shorter durations – you can bet we would have ended up with a lot more than 11 of them. These proposals would basically turn the plutocracy we're in into an autocracy afflicted with a perpetual political crisis.

The last proposal is one which I've worked on for the past eight years with most of the interesting work done in the past four. It starts with our current system and makes use of the important insight that the problem of large imbalances between vote share and number of MPs in the FPTP system can be recast as one of an opposition that's below a minimum size. Which is why unlike PR-based systems it allocates additional seats only to candidates that are not in the winning alliance and only when there's not enough MPs in the opposition. It also recommends three tools to deepen our democracy. Find out more about these and its other features.

The Debate Can Now Happen

Between the two zinku who have been Minister of Finance given that the last hurdle that was preventing it to happen has now been overcome: the junior one is now also not even a member of a district council.

As I've said before I am prepared to be the moderator for this debate between our two former chancellors. Possible topics include:
  1. How much gold should go in our reserves portfolio?
  2. The fallacy of the triple external shocks argument
  3. The relationship between tax rates and growth rates
  4. The effect of a flat tax on income distribution
  5. Inflation, the worst enemy of the poor
  6. Chronic rupee depreciation and living standards
  7. How to destabilize the Governor of the Central Bank
  8. The effect of savat leponz and gato pima on the eradication of poverty
  9. Putting incompetent buddies in positions of high responsibility
  10. Borrowing billions we don't need from the World Bank and what it's like being a Bretton-Woods puppet
That's a tentative list of course. So gentlemen, how fast can it happen?

Labour Party Icon Snubbed

Would you believe this? Lady Ruhdihkahaah Jagatsingh, pictured above in the early 1970s, was today not invited to the 74th anniversary celebrations of the only political party she has known, loved and devoted an entire life to.

Why was she not invited? The uninterrupted firing of missiles by the little fellow in the middle of the picture may have had something to do with it.

How To Make The Most of Kozelidir

If you've got a lot of time and an infinite amount of good taste you can scroll through the 300+ posts and enjoy them one by one (and tell your friends on facebook about it by clicking the relevant share button). Or month by month if you hit any of the month buttons on the right of your screen. That's not going to be the most popular option given the current size of the blog. Here are a few shortcuts.

Let's say you've enjoyed reading Samad's piece entitled Les inegalites meurtrieres and want to read posts along the same line. Piece of cake. Just hit the label entitled inequality at the bottom of the article and 4 other posts will pop-up for your immediate consumption including a 4m52s video of Thomas Piketty who's an expert on inequality and an opportunity to be different from Ramgoolam. Or maybe you're interested with posts on growth? Easy. Hit the growth label instead and you'll be on your way to read 17 more posts on that topic (more as we put labels in every post on Kozelidir). Of course, you can leave as many comments as you wish and you can do so in Kreol, English or in French and enrich the ongoing debates. Which you can also do by participating in the occasional poll that we hold.

Another quick way of looking for stuff that interests you would be to use the search boxes. I prefer the one that has search this blog on top (use it to find articles written by Richard Hokenson, Veer, Shy, Koztou and Mamoujee). The one in the top left corner gives different search results (I am not too sure I remember how they are really different -- drop me a line if you find out).

You can also join us on Facebook by hitting the FB Join Us box or follow us on Twitter. Some of our fans have added us to their Google reader and what not while others have even enjoyed purchasing the great books we've reviewed.

Finally if you want to have an overdose of Samad's writing you can visit Tchombo! and read about a A Femme Fatale Named Tina and the other posts in there. Likewise if you want to read some meatier stuff I've written, head to The Jag! where pieces like The Fallacy of The Triple External Shocks Argument awaits you.

Happy reading!
