2012: The Year in Review
January: PM thinks we should benchmark against Trinidad & Tobago, a country which had an income level per capita similar to ours when he first became PM but which now has one twice ours. Messi grabs third consecutive Ballon d'Or. France loses AAA rating. Jaufeerally pleads for end of growth worship. Photo-giant Kodak files for bankruptcy. Journalist helps democracy work better. Sithanen's electoral reform proposal makes a travesty of our democracy. Disinterested alternative presented.
February: University students unconvinced by Sithanen's proposal. 75% of poll don't want their Ministers unelected. CWA applies harsher cuts, after downpour. Whitney Houston found dead in hotel room. A380 has cracks in wings. Chuttoo organises debate on political financing. Riots break out in Reunion over cost of living. Somalian pirates to be tried in Mauritius.
March: iPad 3 unveiled. Foreign military parades on March 12. MPC undergoes makeover. Country crying for 3 leaders. Things get ugly atop republic. Chagos petition appear doomed. SAJ drags Reduit into partisan politics.
Read the review for Q2, Q3, Q4.

Leo Still Within Reach of Der Bomber's Record
True he didn't score in the last three matches. That leaves him with 4 liga matches and a Copa del Rey final on May 24 to get the remaining 4 goals. In the meantime meet Gerd Muller.

Leo Scores A Double, Then A Hat-trick
A week ago against Leverkusen. That's a Champions League record. And it was such a pleasure to see the guy's reaction after this extraordinary performance: happy but humble. Messi is second to none when it comes to not wasting energy on what's not important. Michael Jordan was like that too. His Airness kept all his power to stay in the air one more second than his opponents.
Bilbao too has shown some impressive football last week and I hear yesterday too. And tiny tiny team Apoel eliminated Lyon after demonstrating character on the field. All this reminded me of the excitement of watching the selecao play ages back.

Sithanen Puts Messi To Shame by Breaking New Record
Almost. Rama now holds the record for the shortest press conference. That of yesterday lasted less than 1 minute according to L'express. Other records he holds include the shortest time to shift parties during a general elections campaign -- less than 24 hours in 2000. That incidentally made him the only person to have his name simultaneously appear on posters of opposing political factions.
We shouldn't forget that he holds the record for the biggest political anaconda ever swallowed: Manou Bheenick in 2007 and the largest boa constrictor ever chewed: Pravind Jugnauth last week.
By getting the MSM on board Ramgoolam may also have unwittingly aborted Sithanen's carefully crafted mission: to be the only politician to have led a government to an unambiguous 60-0 defeat each time he has been its Minister of Finance (1995 and 2010).
