Cuttaree Could Be Getting Ready
To spend five years at Le Réduit as part of an LP/MMM alliance. The other ingredient of this partnership would be a change in our constitutional regime -- a move to a Presidential system -- along with an electoral reform that would include a dose of PR. As wished by both Berenger and Ramgoolam. This scenario is not as unlikely as you may think because remember that a quarter of MMM's central committee voted against the principle of the 2000 Remake.
The other reason is that the chemistry between Paul and Navin is better than between the other protagonists. Of course changing the constitutional setup will not make our current slate of politicians any wiser. So your lot will not improve. Only theirs.

MMM Votes To Compromise Presidency
Indeed on Saturday a supermajority of its central committee voted in favour of having Sir Aneerood Jugnauth lead an MSM/MMM alliance as Prime Ministerial candidate in the next general elections. The snag is that SAJ is our President and as everyone knows -- save 33 members of the central committee, Cassam Uteem and Jayen Cuttaree -- Presidents are not supposed to go back to partisan politics. That is we don't want to see them on a political platform again.
This vote also raises some serious questions about the strength of the leadership of Pravind Jugnauth who inherited the job almost a decade back. At the same time it confirms that the MMM badly needs a new leader. ASAP.

Ramgoolam Has A Challenge for MSM MPs: Resign From Parliament
So he said at a lengthy press conference which ended a little while ago. He did not think too much of their political weight either suggesting that they might have downgraded from a little party to bagasse.
The Prime Minister also said, in reply to a question about Ali Mansoor's controversial circular, that the Financial Secretary is a technical guy but that it's the politicians who craft policy because they consider more dimensions than the bean-counter. Really? Can he substantiate this?

Cuttaree Displays Romantic View
Of both his leader and himself in an interview this afternoon. First his leader. Berenger is supposed to have been the one to pull the country out of a slump back in 1982. We've discussed about that myth before.
Jayen Cuttaree also confesses that we could have to wait another 50 years to find a third world candidate to the post of Director General of the WTO who campaigned as hard as he did.
Are you surprised to hear such a self-aggrandising statement from the deputy leader of an intellectually decrepit party like the MMM?
I'm not.
