They released their electoral manifesto today which is 9 days before we go to vote. That's what they did in 2005 too. Which gives you an indication of the amount of respect they have for us voters.
Took a quick peek at it and as you would have guessed it has a fair dose of rubbish.
Remember, sniff but by all means don't swallow.

Spectacular U-turn on NRPT and tax on interests. Why not about free transport? Why not about "ciblage" of old-age pensions? Why not... Ayo, trop boukou, laisse tomber! Batter touyer ti-cochon, enn-dé-trois, tout dimoun dehors!!
The U-turn on NRPT and tax on bank interest is yet another 'desaveu' for Sithanen but is also an indication of how policy decisions are tackled at the head of the State. It took so many years to realise that these measures were counter productive and discriminatory for the middle-class. Or is it another tour de force of the MSM?
Thanks a lot for the Labour Electoral Manifesto. I downloaded it successfully and will have a look if there's really a lot of rubbish as you say.
I agree perfectly with akagugo and Kozemotande.
A real certificate of competence for his future Finance Minister !!!
@akagugo: U-turn indeed. Free transport is actually a little more complicated than this.
@Kozemotande: desaveu la pwena plin tink sa. Policy decisions? Hahaha. Anybody who knows a little about economic policies would have noticed right off the bat that Sithanen was fooling us.
@Anonymous: yes, you paint a very bleak picture and you set the stage for the arrival of Zorro. Or is it Zero?
@ SJ
Complicated? Ou kwar sa ou? The subsidy is not efficient and I still persist to believe that a deduction from tax payable on account of attendance to school (to be certified by the headmaster / rector) is the best way of ensuring that the subsidy is actually used by the students to go to school, and not to tchaké / kas poz and for the bus owners to keep their buses on the roads. But ultimately, free transport to students is not viable due to its enormous running cost.
Ok, this is not the only U-turn that I'd like to see, and there are many other important issues at hand like the financing of the old-age pensions (let's not forget the inevitable ageing of an increasing proportion of the population).
By the way, did you notice the second peak in the skewed-normal distribution curve of the poll...?
@akakugo: For sure the subsidy is very inefficient and the rector-certification is a good idea. I was talking about the importance of beefing up the level of service. We and students deserve better than 'katchak charlies'. Its cost can certainly be brought down but we shouldn't forget the Rs5 billion that get wasted every year. If we cut 20% of that we pay for the free transport.
Yep, the distribution is bi-modal.
I do not get you on free transport. Do we pay bus owners or responsible parties after rector-certification?
If we pay responsible parties, then students will have to disburse first!
If we pay bus owners, to which bus owner(s) do we remit the money?
Solution - a modest thought - bus owners should form companies or cooperatives and we pay to them.
The modus operandi need to be well defined.
@Kranti: I'd go for paying the parents after rector certification so that we get around the problem of bus owners getting paid for work not done.
They could disburse first or be given an average month's worth of money and then adjustments be made if needed.
@ SJ
Yes, d'accord lors raisonnement ki bizin améliore confort / sécurité / fiabilité service transport.
@ Kranti
rector certification is a must to ensure that the pupil has actually attended school. A parent cannot be reimbursed if a student has not attended school (i.e., has not commuted to and from school)
Example: http://www.defimedia.info/blogs/741/Programme-lavenir-ensam.html
Eski zot tourve ça normal ki bann chroniqueurs ki d'habitude ena boukou à dire soudainement pe faire du "plain summarising"...?
Agreed. The local press is going crazy for financial reasons. The interview of VL yesterday on Radio Plus was a case in point. NN was unusually agressive and the tone used by him would make someone feel that he were operating at the MBC and not at an independent radio station. Does the word independence has any meaning for our local press?
@Kozemotande: NN's selective aggressiveness was indeed obvious. I stopped waking up with Radio+ a long time ago. There is worse.
