Why The Stimulus Package Didn't Save 4,700 Jobs

First of all Sithanen claims that the economy has created some 40,000 jobs since July 2005. That's roughly 8,000 jobs per year. If our economy is creating jobs this fast then we didn't need to save any because it would have created 4,700 jobs in 7 short months -- about 700 jobs every month.

Secondly, did these companies need to be saved? Does not paying your rent for several years although you operate in a booming industry related to the global financial meltdown?

Thirdly, didn't we hear a few greedy bosses wanting stimulus money but indecently saying at the same time that they didn't guarantee they could save any job. We've also heard worse than that.

So for all of this I am not buying into the argument that the stimulus package saved nearly 5,000 jobs. You shouldn't either.

Once again we are not being told the whole truth. The Stimulus Package will be clouded with suspicion given the train de vie of the CEOs of those government funded firms.

  2. How did this article surface in Le Mauricien of 14 July 2010?

  3. The same way this one and many others did: I sent them.
Why did I send them? So that a few of my friends stop harassing me to send what I write to the Forum page.

  4. Ah, ok... I thought that there was some journalist at Le Mauricien who kept an eye on this blog and periodically snatched one of your articles to highlight the fact that some good advice posted since long ago by their authors were being wasted by not paying attention to their common sense... If you are sending them, then may I assume that they are not reading this? Too bad for them...
By the way, would your friends be equally inclined to harass you to have the same articles published in, say, l'express? :-)

  5. My guess is that there are a number of journalists that keep at least one eye on kozelidir and probably leave comments too.
I am sending them for the benefit of the folks who don't surf -- I get a lot of comments from people who read them. I once even got contacted by a lady to post my content on her blog. Her intro went like this:"Are u this guy, who is writting blogs?:)" Guess what the Rolling Stones do with their music I do with my writing...
I think my friends are aware that they shouldn't push their luck too far...

  6. It will not be difficult to agree with Rooben Kistnen about how our economy can create jobs: subsidised loans to SMEs instead of stimulus packages to GLDs. Especially when you consider the job growth performance of these two distinctly different economic sectors.
