How Does 9-year Schooling Stack Up Against This?

  1. This, and Finland's method: as if we're on another planet altogether...

  2. Finland is a country which has embraced basic design principles. Here's another one: Germany.

  3. I was looking quickly at the brochure for the NYS and the presentation. I don't find a lot of smart moves in there. Except maybe that two subjects in grade 5 and 6 will be non-cumulative (so less rote-learning). I don't understand why we didn't make all the subjects become non-cumulative as they are at university level.

The NYS has also its booklet. While you may remember we had complained about the 25 days that had been given to the public to comment on Bunwaree's plan. Arrows seem to be missing here too: so we can't switch to secondary from polytechnics? Which reminds me of the 42 days we were given to send suggestions in a dead-end.

    25, 42 zur: bat-bate lor baz?

  4. My son has just obtained his personal copy upon admission in Grade 1 this week. At first glance, NYS is just moving the hurdles further away from childhood, and has (at last) removed the incredibly bulky EVS from the first 3 years. Apart from that, the content is strictly the same, bar some aesthetic renaming of some features already implemented in private primary schools for a decade already. More to come soon as we pore over it and perusal goes deeper - but the 25 days are clearly not enough for debate among all stakeholders. Who cares, Leela Devi will impose it anyway...

  5. So, no EVS for the first 3 years. Did they actually start EVS in standard 1 before? Don't know how long LDD gave the public to comment but that's gone already: it was Bunwaree who gave us 25 days.
