20-year old Shiva Chedumbrum was on his way to school when his car was involved in accident.
I have stopped counting the number of fatal road accidents. It seems that Mauritius is putting an increasingly smaller value on the life of her citizens.
An accident like so many others waiting to happen due to the incompetence of dimwits. They think they are being smart by rallying dozens of gablous on speed traps. Problem-solving Dodoland style! The media and citizens should wake up and post on Youtube the daily death traps they encounter and also reckless driving and behaviour of riders, drivers, jaywalkers including fat cats, and the gablous themselves. This show must end!
Any more proof needed that we are indeed drowning in drivel?
Not sure Mister Buntipilly can handle what he's got on his plate. Are ex-traffic warden responsible for road safety at the policy-level in countries which do not practice bat-bate?
I'm not sorry to say that it's almost obscene the level of attention that the deceased - one cannot imagine the speed at which he must have been driving to be unable to stop his bébé d'amour behind a 4×4 and end up in a frontal collision with an oncoming car from the "third-lane" - is getting, compared to the other innocent citizens who got killed - or worse, maimed for life - on our roads.
Yes, the value of a human life is not of prime importance here in Dodoland. Did you see any improvement in the scaffoldings used on construction sites? Did you see any improvement in traffic light timing at major intersections? Any traffic calming devices installed somewhere? Did you see policemen present on major roads when BR22 is not on its way? Did you see all these oddly misshapen vehicles getting grounded for good for not being up to standards of fitness? No? Because we all believe we are lucky bastards to have reached work on time because we have escaped the attention of a policeman after having parked on a yellow line, overtaken on the left, failed to give proper lane-changing / turning signal, halted over yellow boxes, driven through a amber-flashing traffic light, failed to give priority to dpedestrians on a cross-here, etc, etc... Yeah, we comfort ourselves in thinking that getting caught can only happen to others. Until it happens to us, and we invent all kinds of excuses to make our personal case an exception and seek political backing for escaping our responsibility. And then have the guts to blame the system for being corrupt. This is why failing to set/spot priorities and this kind of mis-timed campaign (as if putting on shoes before socks: hmm, SJ?) will never achieve any kind of positive result.
@ SJ: Sirrman ou pé rode dire cardan cassé touiy enn lott conditerr... Si ou azoutt ça ek ça oussi, CNT capav classifié couma enn serial offender ça! Killer struckagain, and will strikeagain because of the enormous attraction of easy money, despite Anil's roars.
Caution: more blood ahead - Add to this the fact that despite the NTA being unable to exert its control on two fitness testing centres, there will be four to control soon, and these will be privatized.
Peu importe, di-moman ki travaiy-la férr kouma bizin. Pa attann ki enn zafférr dramatik (coum-sa) arrivé pou ki bann Right Honourable arrétt abiz dé zott position...
Mett sosett avan soulié big-time, after the saga of yellow-and-white number plates. Our dear head-of-state forgets about NTA's blindness to faulty vehicles, RDA's failure to re-design faulty roads, TMRSU's failure to provide proper signage, ignorance of basic road regulations by Police officers, Traffic Branch's blindness to "normal" (but potentially fatal) driving errors, and still giving away driving licences to people who may kill themselves or others within their first few kilometers behind the wheel...
Let's see how many fatal accidents less to mourn over the next months.
May place my bet already: possibly no change, certainly an increase in road fatalities and road-rage incidents.

Yes, unfortunately. Urgent work need to be done in this area to avoid preventable deaths.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the missing link - repaired here.
ReplyDeleteDo you have unshakeable confidence that you'll never get caught speeding at the wheel of your normal, ordinary car?
Well, let this crush it.
