Usain Breezes Through The 200m Semis

The final is tomorrow 05h30. He said he wants to break his 19.19s record. This means running half a second faster than his time in the semis. De Grasse could provide some motivation. Bolt will of course be in action at 18h48 today in round 1 of the 100m relay (the final is at 05h35 on Saturday).

You also don't want to miss the Badminton singles semis which starts at 18h00 when Sindhu will try to earn the second medal of a billion-people nation. While the US will be facing Serbia at 20h00 in one of the two women volleyballs semis. If you like women wrestling today is the day you want to be glued to your TV. Tomorrow if you also like men wrestling.

Of course as these Olympics are ending in the weekend there will be a lot of medals awarded in the next 2-3 days. Hopefully Brazil will win as many as possible so that the home crowd is in the best of moods. Like at 00h30 on Sunday when the Selecao play in the Maracana. And get a chance to get even.

According to some studies Usain will dominate sprints for another year or two. But that's Usain we're talking about. He might just last a tad longer. I hope he changes his mind and competes in Tokyo.

Also make sure to click the 'ageing curves' link to get an opportunity to raise at least one eyebrow.

Finally, did you see how a section of western media has badmouthed Rio for several years? They are looking quite silly now given that that city delivered memorable games. Of course they are starting to spew their venom on Tokyo. Let's wish them good luck.

Well, speaking of the favelas, just look what kind of 'talent' it's hiding: Rocky is a category all by himself! REminds me of the strength athletic"s which involve real functional strength derived from our common farming ancestry. Our former dockers (lifting an 80kg bag of sugar up a wobbly ramp across the quay onto a 'chaland') would fare well in these, I guess...

And this case of blatant discrimination speaks loads about the weight of sponsoring distorting real-life situations: do you have special buses or taxis for disabled ones, or do you adapt existing facilities for their inclusion? And therefore, why a spearate olympic event for them and why not allowing them to take part during the same - albeit prolonged - event...?

As expected, Rio's olympic infrastructure is becoming a brown field...
