Mauritius Adjusts to Ban of Plastic Bags

In one grocery store I checked there were no paper bags to put your bread in. Some people just placed theirs on the damp cashier conveyor belt. You can only guess the source of that humidity. Our sister island Rodrigues has banned plastic bags for 18 months now. I wonder if we've learned everything we could from their experience?

It's a good move to ban these plastic bags. We should get rid of this nuisance next.

Tant vakwa here I come.

Paper bags have appeared since then. As have some apparently biodegradable plastic bags (which smell like coffee).

I believe that Rodrigues could lead by example, and up this one by banning the polystyrene take-away altogether...

Ah, can we up this one?
Beyond this, who has the courage to break from old, unsustainable, habits and ponder on our impact as species onto the planet and other species sharing it with us? And that they existence is not centred around our petty consumption...

Amid all the criticism, here's the good old ways of holding your groceries: banana leaves! Copy Dodoland, copy!!
